how much to charge setting up a pc

a director at work has bought a new machine and has asked if i would setup it up, obviously he has asked if we could negotiate a fee.

he wants stuff moving from his laptop to his new desktop and then the desktop setting up with stuff.

how much you reckon? i could do with the cash. i was thinking £30 is that the standard?
 
£50 set fee.

It's an easy enough job for you, should take a few hours, and you'll be best amtes with the boss
 
Director's get paid a lot more money charge £50ph and state this is the going rate. :D
 
If he's in any way your senior i'd go the £20 route. Favours owed from those higher up generally pay more long term than another tenner in your pocket. If you're not short a penny or 2 do it as a favour, much more likely to get something back from it.
 
Charge £20 but take copies of the porn of him and his wife on your memory stick to use against him later during payrise time....;)
 
Tell him you'll do it during working hours if he wants, but personally I wouldn't do it outside of hours - you'll end up on call for that PC forever.
 
I'm a sole trader in PC Repairs and I base my charges loosely around £30 per hour.

These jobs are actually the best money earners. To set a new PC up from scratch and transfer files etc. you want to look at making around £90-120

He's a director of a company too, he's gonna have plenty of cash so don't worry about thinking 120 sounds too high.

Depending on his personality he might take this the wrong way, and assume your weak. This could work against you in later payrise negotiations.


I would just charge a fair price, 30-40 quid depending how long it takes. Dont rip him off, but dont give him it under value.
 
Incidentally I just did a job for one of the directors of Barclays PLC. where I had to set a new computer up for him and back up files... and also look at his wife's laptop and sort that out.

Two jobs in fact, I was there for 4 hours each time so charged him £240 in total. He was very happy with my work.
 
make sure you take note of any pron from his favourites and try and do a bit of detective work - you never know when you may need to have one over on him! Oh and I'd charge below commercial rates in this instance (assuming you are not doing this as a business) i.e. £30 or so as a favour rate without looking like a sap
 
A director has asked you to set up his pc and you are thinking about charging him. 0_o


Doing it gracefully will be far more beneficial in the long term. Just state you are setting it up, not providing support.


Doing it for free leaves a ????????? mark over the event, and you dont know if it will ever pay off. Getting a measly £50 means it was a transaction and thats that.
 
he is a director but not in anyway my boss, he's cool with me though already and I try help him out with stuff. I know some stuff he goes on already lol
