How much to get a car undersealed?

Actually thats something I would like to know too as I wouldnt mind having my car redone as I dont have access to anywhere to underseal/waxoyl it myself

For what it would cost for someone to do it you could buy a set of ramps or trolley jack and axle stands and the waxoyl. After the job you have ramps/jack for other little jobs. Plus the satifaction you know the job is done properly.

It can range from £80 to £200.

I hear waxoyl is better because it fights the rust aswell as protecting it. Underseal just traps any moisture or rust thats already there.

cost me about £60 inc VAT but the mx5 is a small car. note mine was waxoiled. I thought it was a pretty good investment since I intend to keep the car until the chassis rots away.

Makes sense to me... Probably found the forum through googling and wants to know long term results of the method described in post, he did say he keeps cars til the chassis rots away. If anything the length of time makes more sense than if it was a year or two later :p

:edit: then again, Matt not been online since 2021 so... Unlikely to get a response @christians

The easy bit is slapping it on.
The more time consuming bit is suitably cleaning under the car such that you’re painting the car and not rubbish and grime.
Had my MX5 done for £350, including that clean

i didn't realise undersealing was still a thing :-D

dad used to do it when i was a kid, had to scrape the wheel arches out, including 10kg of stones that had been stuck and pebbledashed the arch. never even heard of undersealing for decades.

Many cars are now galvanised or have good sealing. Then there’s Mazda, who for some reason seem to have never grasped the need. No idea why, and it’s a real shame as I genuinely rate their cars.

Mines a brand new hyundai and I just wonder if it is really worth it if im keeping the car forever, I mean the cost of getting it done every x years etc why not just get it wielded when it needs it?

might not be as necessary in some places due to climate/non-salting of roads, maybe? I wouldn't even know if a car needed it or not, never heard it mentioned when looking for cars or seen it as an optional extra/service item etc.

Had my mx5 done for £400 6 years ago. but that included the cavities being coated with ditrinol and a full underseal underneath.

It's still pretty good under there (touch wood) but I've since done other remedial rust work myself, such as treating the rear bumper, boot lid, inner arches and topping up the waxoyl underneath.

Basically if you plan to be a long term mx5 owner and drive in all seasons, then prepare to get you hands dirty or pay someone else to.
