I know i will need a mobo, cpu and DDR3 ram but everything else would carry over? What am i looking at for a system taking into account it has to fit in a Lian Li media pc [so m-itx mobo] do they even do a m-itx mobo?

Not upgraded for a while so please excuse the noob questions.

Just had a look around ASRock do a m-itx board which seems to go for £75 ~

What do you use the system for?

Its mainly used as a media pc although it has a 5770,4GB of ram and a Q6600 at 3.3GHZ but, i shall be purchasing BF3 in the autumn and do a lot of bluray ripping so it has a hard life.

I thought a upgrade would now be worth it as im lagging behind in tech terms and could still sell my existing equipment for a few notes.

As RJC says, asrock have a micro ATX board (the H67M-ITX).

Also there is a Zotac H67 board which is on the high cost end and a Foxconn H67 on the low cost end.

As these are all H67 boards, then you won't be able to overclock. That said, if you do want to do overclocking then I imagine some M-ITX Z68 boards will be arriving soon.

In terms of performance increase, this chart shows how one this i5 quad core compares to a Q6600 at stock speeds.

Thankyou for that, i wonder how far they are apart with the Q6600 @ 3.3? Think i might wait for the next boards then as i do like a bit of overclocking.

Would £400 cover it with RAM?

Just for the motherboard, CPU and RAM, Then yes £400 will be plenty, ignor the motherboard just put that in for a price.

I believe so, hopefully M-itx Z68 should not be to far away and this should hopefully give you some overclocking options.

You could save some money by going for the i5 2500 series CPU which just looses the hyper threading.

+1

Though make sure it is the i5 2500K - so you can overclock as far as possible using the unlocked multiplier

Id really like to go for the best thats currently available, upgrade will probably last me a couple of years at least!
