Hey ive had my computer about 2years, nearly, i think lol

Anyway current spec is

Amd 64 3000+ (754 pin)
2 x 512mb OCZ ram
120GB HDD
Asus K8V Motherboard
Leadtek nvidia 6800 NU

Bascially it runs ok, but in games it gets sluggish at times and i arnt able to have things medium/max a lot of the time =/

So how much would it cost to get it up to a top notch spec?

I havent been following hardware for a few months

Poke another gig of ram in it and get a nice new graphics card, and you'll be good to go, especially if you can get an overclock out of your current 3000+? RAM is probably £50-60, graphics card is about £150 for an X1800XT, which is the best value for money card around right now. I'm sure you'll get a lovely performance boost from that. Around £200 total there.

A more expensive route would be to sell the ram, motherboard and cpu and get core 2 duo instead, as well as a new graphics card. E6300 for £150, 2 gig DDR2 for £110, motherboard for about £100...that route would be around £500.

I got me a E6300, 2GB G.Skill ram, 430W Seasonic PSU, 250 Seagate sata drive and AS ROCK Mboard and that came to £440 all together so you should be able to upgrade to Conroe for a decent price tbh.

I'd keep that card for abit longer, I kept my 6600GT and all games i play run fine with it, even Oblivion looks pretty enough for me with it.

The rest of your advice is fine but that is a PCI-E graphics card so a new motherboard would be needed as well(PCI-E socket 754 motherboards weren't out 2 years ago).

£500 as mentioned should get you started if you want to go Conroe, it depends how much further and how much more expense you want as to exactly how close to top-end you get it.

The beauty of a forum is that there are people like you around to notice my stupid mistakes. :D Must have had a bit of a brain-dead moment there, thanks.
