How much to reset tracking

Local place I use put the car on their alignment machine for free, and charge 20 something pounds per adjustment (can't remember exactly what it was, less than 30 though).

My local place wanted £20 per wheel.

I got them down to £50 to do it, i'd just had two tyres as well. I'm sure I paid them £30 about 18 months ago to do my 850, £20 for 5 - 7 minuites labour is pretty good going!!

I paid £25 ish a week or so back, only to be told it was fine & needed no adjustment.

I got my money back!

Don't think I've ever had or needed to have had the tracking done on any of my cars, I'm sure it's just another way to add on the extras at your local tyre fitters

The inside edge of one of my front tyres was wearing very rapidly, and the alignment machine even showed how much the toe-in was out by. Once it was sorted, the new tyre is now wearing totally even across the tread :)

Getting proper 4 wheel alignment can make a massive difference in a cers handling

IMO unless you have a serious problem with tyre wear or your running something quite special it makes no difference, it's when they sell you the 'you need your tracking done sir' when you have 1mm difference of tyre wear over one tyre, side to side after 15 - 20k of driving.

I always ask why I need new valves? and if your charging me to dispose of the tyres I'll take them and give them to my local banger track or farmer thanks

Whilst with a minority, your probably right, for the majority, your very wrong.

I think your back to front, to the minority who care it matters a great deal and get it done when needed, to the majority who really couldn't care less yet still get it done by mr kwik fit fitter every time because, they said it needed doing and paying £500 for a set of tyres, weights, balancing, disposal, tracking, tyre insurance for a bog standard golf or focus oh whilst your there your pads are low and you need some front discs, really do I here's the blank cheque.

If the tyres are wearing evenly I doubt it would even be noticeable, if there was abnormal wear then the car would have been handling poorly anyway.

Does anyone who pays regular attention to their tracking actually check underneath afterwards to see if their track rod ends show signs of adjustment?

No mate, I was referring to the small minority of garages that may use it to bump up profit, where imo, the majority won't.

I cant understand how they could charge per wheel as tracking has to be both wheels on the same axle at the same time.

Looking at what other people have said I've just had a full wheel alignment so i may have got off quite well :D

The head minion there does a good job but he isn't the brightest bulb in the box. Just before i went he said "That'll be great now you'll get the rest of the year out of that no problems."

I'd hope so there was only 32 hours of it left!!
