As it is several years since my last physics lesson, could someone please help me with some costings that I'm doing for my latest project. I wouldn't quite say that we used to calculate this in pounds, shillings and pence, but it was a while ago and I can't remember how to work out the cost of running an electric device.

This is for a regular electric domestic oven and I would like to know how much, approximately, it costs to run for 1 hour. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

work out the kw per hour(find tfrom technical specs) then * by the cost of electric for one hour (approx 10p/kw/hr

think that might be a bit high, but it does depend entirely opn the oven(e.g. fan assisted or not?distributes heat better)

depnds entirely on the cost of your electricity, average I believe is about 16p per KWh, so if your oven was 1000w, then it would cost say 16p an hour to run, a standard fan oven will be around 2000w give or take, so it would cost 34p to run it for an hour.

Thank you all so much for that. Aren't we all sad whatsits doing this at 9 on a Friday evening? Especially as 2 of our offspring are camping right now, having a BBQ in Maidstone at the Radio 1 weekend. Bah humbug. :D

That's an optimistic rating

Neff CiroTherm oven: 4.6KW

4.6 * 12(per KWh) * 1hour = 55.2pence

Burnsy

ah fair enough, I just googled fan oven, and they came up at 2kw 2.5kw and 2.25 so I just assumed they were around there :p

and jokester, nah the oven is only on full whack whilst getting up to temp, once its there it will turn off until it drops below the set temp and turns on again

Actually I should have said, it is a fan oven (Smeg).

Just for interest, I'm making cheesecakes. So far over the last 2 days I've made vanilla with a pandoro sponge base, ginger with a ginger biscuit base, cookies and cream with Oreos, chocolate chip with bourbon biscuit base, lemon and sultana with panetone sponge base, elderfower and blueberry with a shortbread biscuit base and even a gluten free vanilla one.

Any ideas for other flavours, apart from mustard, of course.

Ginger and white chocolate cheese cake. Rules.

Ginger nut biscuit base,
white chocolate, cream cheese, fine powdered ginger biscuits
ginger candy stuff to decorate.

I will be selling them. Raspberry is one I was thinking about trying, but was wondering whether to swirl in some raspberry sauce too. I will definately try adding white chocolate to the ginger one as the recipe is similar to the one I make.
