How much worse is an Xbox Series S compared to the Series X??

We've got a Series X but the 2 kids are forever arguing about who gets to use it so I was thinking about getting the younger one the cheaper Series S for his room!

Game-wise he plays a lot of Minecraft and Fortnite - how does the performance stack up on the S compared to the X??

Its not miles away and for a youngster on Fortnite and Minecraft it's will be just fine. The S can't output 4k and is 1440p. Performance wise I'd say somewhere around 75% the power of the series x.

Put simply it will be fine and isn't that far away from the X given the use case.

I should have said 75% of the performance at 1440p that the X has at 4k... the actual GPU is about 1/3rd the GPU that the X has in it... or there abouts but in the real world the S is just fine. Ive owned multiple S and X systems and honestly I kinda like the S for many reasons.

Its perfectly fine, especially for kids. Much cheaper on the electric as well.

The thing i dont like is not having a disk drive.

I've got both the X and S and as already stated by others, it sounds like the S is perfect for your situation.
Due to the form factor I actually prefer the Series S as it is perfect for shifting around rooms or taking to family members houses for game nights :)

I used to have a Series S before I upgraded to the X and I remember being taken aback by how small and lightweight the S is. Pictures don't do it justice!

For the games you mentioned, the kids are not going to notice any difference. The gap is quite big when it comes to more demanding games.

This isn't a power issue, it's an optics one. Good luck convincing the younger child that the Series S is fair for them to have when their older sibling has the arguably better console to play on!

If it was me I would look at people selling Series X current deals have 512gb Series S for about £199 when pre owned from someone you could get Series X for around £260 which is better deal also solves issue of kids moaning who has better one.

If I could buy a new S with warranty for less than a X I wouldn't risk a second hand X on a youngsters xmas present - I see so many of them with so many issues. Bloody things are a nightmare.

I wouldn't even bother with XB brand then not worth the price.

Surprise kids with PS5 lol

I've contemplated getting a Series S for the kids, it's a lot smaller so would be easier to take on holiday too (when we stay in a holiday cottage I like to play after the family has gone to bed, or to help on rainy days). Prices have gone up though so I'm not touching it, needs to be under £200.
