I'm looking to buy/build a new Gaming PC and i was wondering what sort of budget i would need for a decent setup to run 1440p, i don't have a 1440p monitor so that'll have to be included or would i just be best sticking with 1080!?

Would you recommend 1440p over 1080p for gaming, is there a big difference. I was thinking maybe spend up to £1k max on the tower.

Im still on 1080p but its the next logical step up, 1k should get you a gtx 1070 if you want an i7 then stick with a 1060. I would get the better gpu instead of the I7 personally.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £970.92
(includes shipping: £0.00)

That really depends on how big you want the monitor. For larger monitors it's better as it will appear less pixellated, but on smaller monitors the difference will be less.

I was looking at the BenQ XL2720Z monitor, it's only 1080p bit it's 144hz, I'm still on 60hz. I've not upgraded in years but once I get back from Australia in November I'll be buying a new rig for Battlefield 1 and other games. Everything is so bloody expensive! :/

I went from 1200p (20") to 1440p (27") and the difference was huge. Part of that was the move from 4:3 ratio to widescreen, but the sheer amount of extra screen real estate is what blew me away. I'm glad I didn't try and go to 4k though as I find font sizes at 1440p just on the threshold of what my eyes are able to bear without needing to be scaled. Also, 4k would need a GPU that's out of my budget range.

A 1070 is ideally suited for 1440p. But you can get by with a 1060 or RX 480 for many games, especially if you stick to 60Hz, although you may need to step the quality down from Ultra to High in some titles.

144Hz vs 60Hz is very much a personal preference thing. Personally I've never had a problem with 60Hz and value colour accuracy over refresh rate (the choice was between 60Hz IPS and 144Hz TN with the budget I had available).

I've been reading reviews online and watching YouTube videos and I think I'm going to go for the 1440p. Is there any specific monitors that you'd recommend, I don't want to spend too much obviously.

Definitely 1060 perfect for 1080p, 1070 is overkill for 1080p.

Absolutely! It's also priced at a great price point too! For me personally, there was almost no justification paying the extra for the 1070 or above as the 1060 is more than adequate for my needs.

Well... that and I couldn't afford it at the time :P

Certainly my upgrade route from here (GPU wise) would be at least to GTX 1080 or whatever comes next.

Regarding 1080p / 1440p, it all depends on the monitor size. I wouldn't want a 27 inch screen at 1080p.

1060 will get by at 1440p, but for high settings and fps you want a 1070.
