how much would i notice an upgrade?

hi mate ive got a asus p51 pro e5200 @ 3.6, 4 gb of skill ram, only using a 17" monitor at the mo, will be changing in the next few months though?

The GTX is not much faster, so be more like a sidegrade than an upgrade imo, as the 9800 GT used to be called the 8800 GT, and the 9800 GTX used to be called the 8800 GTS.

Id either go 4870 1gb, or 260-216 from a 9800 GT.

Yeah, no point in upgrading at all mate. If you want to change your card, go for a 4870 1GB or 260 as Loadsa says.

I would wait until you get a new monitor and get both at the same time as new 40nm cards will be out from ati in a month orso and at least it should make the 55nm cards a bit cheaper then at least and you can see how fast the new cards are.
