He's already got a 260GTX, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard etc.

He wants to be able to run it but for it also to be upgradable so it won't just be for Diablo 3.

Depends on the resolution of the monitor and what he defines as 'play Diablo 3'. All maxed out etc etc or medium settings or lieterally just be able to play the game. Does he need an OS?

The 260 isn't really going to cut it much these days (unless we're talking about 768p res). Here is a gaming build for him to consider:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £190.00
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £181.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £109.99
1 x Sandisk Ultra SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA II Solid State Hard Drive - (SDSSDH-120G-G25) £64.99
1 x OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £62.99
1 x Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PXD38G1600LLK) £37.94
1 x Fractal Design Core 1000 Midi Tower Case - Black £32.99
1 x Akasa AK-CC4007EP01 Nero 3 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/2011/AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/FM1) £23.99
1 x Sony Optiarc AD-5280S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99

260gtx can play D3 all maxed out. Also anything quad, including q6600 will play it fine at 60+ fps with everything on. It's not a demanding game.

The question is not what settings he wants to run it on but what other games he wants to play and how upgradeable will they because D3 is not a demanding game, any half decent 3-4yr old pc can play it on full.

This looks good. The processor is about as good as anything you can get for a gaming system, and the gpu although not the most powefull, packs an almighty punch for the price.

I dont think he will be disapointed with that.

Maybe and its a big maybe, he may want to wait and see what price the 660's come in at, but then again, no one knows for sure when that is coming out.

Its a cheap and cheerfull build, but for the price, its pretty high end.

He wants to play it on high. I was under the impression the 260GTX is good enough aswell.

That suggested build is quite pricey really. I thought he might be able to just buy a motherboard, processor and RAM for around £250ish and then a half-decent case/psu package. Perhaps i'm just ill-educated though, i haven't built a PC in a while and know barely anything about the current market.

blizzard games look terrible and run on everything. Just get a cheap 470/480 for £50-70~ and thats more than enough to play it on high at 1920x1080

Didn't know D3 was that non-demanding and although I would spend the extra and get something like my first build, here is a cheaper option:

Yes, ofc he could go 2nd hand everything and spend a lot less but I can't spec for that here
