Just got off the Phone from Apple.

iPod Mini finally gave up over the weekend. Sods law its just outside of warranty as well. After spending 30 minutes in a call que I got through to the operator.

"Hello I need to send my iPod off for repair this has happened Yadda Yadda Yadda"

"Ok Mr Reid that will be £69.00 Pounds"

"How Much ???!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!???!?!"

"My Mistake. Its £169.00 ONE SIX NINE before parts"

Price confirmed with Apple in the Trafford Centre

My mate just told me the mini has been discontinued in light of the Nano. It would appear that is the standard Apple fee for looking at things out of Warranty nowadays. The lad in the store had only been there 2 weeks so he says so that may or may not be true

Thing is I dont mind paying for it to be repaired. I know its out of warranty so you can't expect to have it done for free. The charge just seems somewhat excessive. Its not as though you can get them to have a look at it and then say the cost is £169.00 pls £X for the parts. They want £169.00 just for the privellage

unless you really want an Ipod in which case its your decision.

tbh I might go down the Archos route as im not overly keen with iTunes anyway for transfering files across to it.

I think im more disappointed because I know the Missus spent her Xmas bonus on it for me.

My mate has one at work and he's well impressed. Functional but a tad on the ugly side. Guess you cant have it always. Listened to it and it sounds better than the iPod not sure if that is the headphones or the actuall player
