how much...

How much...for a red car?

Is it an old Mustang engine? Infact the old Ford 351 is 5.8litre.

GM engine?

A friend of mine imported an LS1 lump from the states for £1100.

Seriously? Did that include shipping and taxes?

If it's true then that's an absolute bargain. B.A.E want £4,400 for a LS1, and that's without ancillaries or even VAT

I'd love to have something LSx powered to play with but in this country they don't seem to make much sense cost wise. Same can be said for most yank V8s :(.

It depends what its going into and what power you want...some of the Ford tuning folk are giving up on their YBs for big american engines, for whilst the initial outlay is steep if you're after big power then they are comparititvely cheap to tune further (as in, a 600bhp Cosworth YB will cost significantly more to build than a 600bhp V8). Witness people shoehorning V8s into Escort Cosworths, Granadas or Sapphires over on the Passion Ford site...

I'm sure he told me that was all in. Crated and everything however that is going back probably about 2 years.

It looked like this when he'd unpacked it all.

If you look around you can find decent prices.

I found a guy selling an LS1 and gearbox plus ecu and harness for around 2k when i was thinking about sticking a V8 in an RX7.

If your after something like that as a weekend toy its not to bad, the LS1 onwwards can do about 30mpg on a motorway cruise at 70mph obviously if your foot gets heavy your going to drop into the 10mpg range.

My GTR is the same when it comes to a heavy right foot but unfortunately isnt much better on a motorway cruise either, and its got 2 less pistons but if its what you like its what you like :)

I've heard that they have brilliant fuel economy (For a 5.7 V8!) thanks to the a ridiculously long last gear. They apparently cruise at 70MPH virtually at tick over.

When I've got my own place I think I'll give sticking one into a Vauxhall Omega a crack :).

Aye, even my older LT1 5.7 (1995) would easily tick over 30mpg on a run because at 70mph it'd just be turning 1800RPM - at motorway speeds with an automatic transmission.

Not too shabby for over 300BHP and 330ft.lb. Depends on the aerodynamics of whatever you put it in, mind!

Even the later seven litre LS7 will do 30mpg on a run, with 505bhp and 470ft.lb :)
