I'm looking at new cars around 14-15k, and the part-ex value of my current car is probably around 5k.

How flexible are new car prices these days for the cheaper cars ? Is it just take the list price, or is there some room to negotiate ?

I'd be paying for the balance on the car and not using credit/pcp.

No room at all usually these days, especially if your paying cash (from a trader) might be some wiggle room with private but not much.

We did the same but at a lower price last year. 12k new car, 2k trade in and cash difference.

There was a little wriggle room on the new price about £500. We were offered higher than book trade value for the Fiat 500 but it was low mileage and we'll maintained. About another £750.

It did take some haggle, we visited several places and there did seem a shortage of new cars. This one was preregistered with 10 miles on the clock and all transport plastics in place still.
