How noisy are 5870s?

100% agree sorta considering getting a 5870 for warcraft just for it being quite my 4870x2 is crazy loud
Just had a play with CCC/Furmark stability test and manual fan settings - Summary 30% or above fan speed ,which appears to set in at a temp of 70c, is noisy.
Very much like the 4870 I had except I used to hear the 4870 fan speeding up when gaming whereas with the 5870 I have not.
May be that the cure for the noise is to use an Arctic cooler Twin Turbo (Pro) - I did this with the 4870 and it worked a treat.
But not thinking of doing this yet - in actual gaming (max of say 2/3hrs stint) I've not noticed the fan spinning up so no reason to
(Then again my hearing may have got worse )

I tend to play games with headphones on as there are others in the room and it's annoying them with loud whining fans that concerns me
This one wooshes rather than whines.. and it wooshes quietly.

It's a very quiet card and runs pretty cool as well.
See a lot of people saying it's fine "under normal operating conditions" or similar, and that it's only loud when booting and the fan is at 100% for a short period.
Question is, what exactly are normal conditions. Do you mean it's fine until you start playing a game which works it hard, then it gets loud, or the fan never gets near 100% even under intensive gaming?

I was playing crysis for hours and hours and the fan hardly went above 30-35% and wasn't even running very hot, even at that fan speed. I'm a proper noise nazi and you can barely hear it. It'd be fair to say that its a little louder than the ultra-silent 8800gts's of old, but not by THAT much and what you can hear is a fairly pleasant wind type sound rather than a horrible whine or anything like some.
It'll undoubtedly be MILES quieter than your 4870x2, thats for sure.
