little help here, in virtual pc when i shutdown the vpc i get an option to either save or discard changes to the disk, which is good.

however in vmware the only thing i can find is making the hdd either persistent or not but crucially i cant change that setting when the vm is active. :/

is there something obvious i'm missing in vmware to do this?

The way I see VMWare is that when you make changes they're saved immediately.

If you want to load an image and make changes without anything saved then you can use VMWare Player.

I don't think there's anything inbetween....

If you're using VMware workstation use the snapshot facility to do this. Once you have it setup as you like take a snapshot and you will then be able to revert to this snapshot undoing any changes you've made.
