How often do you change your mouse?

My mouse is technologically sound but the mouse feet are worn on one side and although its smooth to use it looks little grimey. I have the logitech G5 and it was a big improvement over the Microsoft intellimouse in terms of sensitivity (which I need and I only twitch my wrist rather than move my whole arm to use the mouse). Is there anything out that is actually better than the logitech G5? I was surprised that it made a difference going from my previous mouse to current.

Definitely just get another G5, best mouse ever :)

I only really ever change my mouse when the previous one breaks. I got a free upgrade to a G5 when my MX1000 broke, the MX1000 was a month out of warranty as well. Good old Logitech :) - I'll always buy their products if possibly, excellent customer support.

Only change when I break a button or anything else.

Using a Microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000 at the moment, had it about a year or so now, does the job & quite surprised how long the batteries last.

I have the MX518 and I can happily say it's the best mouse I've owned, it's about 2 years old now and it's showing the wear but it still functions perfectly. I have started taking it to Uni to use in the labs now as the mice there are pieces of junk. Trying to use Blender on a iMac with a generic 3 button optical mouse is murder, even with the tracking speed on max, my MX518 works so much better, even the sensitivity adjustment works.

If this one breaks I would be tempted to just get another MX 518. It doesn't have the horizontal scrolling like the MS mice which makes it so much better as the scrolling screws up the other functions of the middle button.

First one (free with laptop) after two years when I dropped it in a cup of juice. Second (£5 replacement) after 6 months when I frayed the wire to death.

Found out that the first one had dried out and now worked, so stuck with that until I decided I wanted a wireless keyboard and the cheapest one came with a wireless mouse, so that's what I use now.

G5 has sideways scrolling, its a lot better than mx510 for games.

When did the G5 change? My old G5 had a smooth greyish finish and only 1 side button, my replacement from Logitech came today and it feels much nicer, it has a textured feel to it, and is black and blue patterned with an extra side button :) It's much nicer than my old one.

I change mine when they break, usually. Had my first IntelliMouse Explorer years ago for a good while until it started skipping all over the place, but got it replaced under warranty. Had the replacement for a while until I got an MX3100 wireless keyboard and mouse, then just before the end of the warranty on that the middle-click on the mouse stopped working. Got the MX5500 set from Logitech as a replacement last year.

Usually change mine when i do a new build every 2-3 years.
Deathadder at the moment but building a new computer soon and probably get the G5.

Ive had a Logitech MX500 for about 3 years, due to very good reports on here i changed it to a Logitech MX518.

I didn't actually gain anything from this mouse, i seemed to be gaming fine without the need to adjust dpi etc all the time.

I thought is was a gimmick as it didn't seem to make any difference at first.

Then i started to play Red Orchestra, now i notice how important changing the dpi is.

One of the main reasons i hadn't changed from my MX510 to the G5 was its lack of two side buttons. When the new revision came out i bought one straight away.

That was in August 07.

i went:

HP Ball mouse with my first PC --> Microsoft Intellimouse Optical 1.1A (which i'm still using right now :D) --> Microsoft wireless Hunk'o'Junk --> Logitech MX518 on the day of release, which i'm still using on the main PC.

as far as people who don't use one/some of the buttons on their MX518's or G5's i use all the buttons on my MX518 frequently, to the extent that the paint's worn off them :D

When u have 2 side buttons you need an extendable thumb, not practicle for where its most use, i.e. in a fast paced first person shooter.

when holding the mouse, my thumb covers both sidebuttons simultaneously. by rocking my thumb i can push either one of them, and can also press both of them at the same time, for games & the like.
