How often do you drain/flush/refill your loop?

I've only done builds myself with clear coolant and they seem to last a good year or so before I even feel the need to drain, flush and re-fill, and I actually sometimes think I could go longer. I'm just helping a friend with a build at the moment though and he wants to use a white Mayhems Pastel coolant which I've not used before... how long would you say he'd be able to go with that before having to re-do it? I've read the Pastel ones can be quite regular. And what are the indicating signs that you NEED to? Higher temps, colour changing?

Pastel I think I read somewhere on Mayhems site was suggested every year?

I am now on distilled water and silver coils and have to admit I haven't really messed with the water now in 16 months, a new record for me ! :P

A bit longer than I thought then, which is good. Are there any signs that a change is required? Would you see temps increase or any other issues, or is the advice to just do it anyway so as to avoid any of these issues in the first place? I'm guessing the longer you leave it, the more likely you are to find that a simple drain and flush through may not clean things out enough?

Yep, no matter how good coolant products claim to be. Distilled water and biocide or silver is the best. You don't get residue like you do using stuff with colouring in it either.

For years I always ran clear liquid in my loops for just those reasons but I recently moved to pastel as it was to resist when it's just so pretty ;)

I've only had the pastel for a couple of months but all's good so far.

Totally get what you are saying, Pastel is very very pretty.

I have gone the reverse, I was Pastel but when changing things/messing I just found it extra hassle.

I live near a place that sells Distilled water, it does mean I can literally just do a fluid change without having to order anything and wait which I find reassuring.

Also have external rads, having custom fluid starts getting expensive when I want to drain so that's also a factor...

12 months since i did mine using blue uv xspc stuff i saw no staining last time i drained the loop temps same, no change in the colour so going to leave it.

I went two years with a 920 with out servicing my loop, the coolant was still clear no aliens and temps have never changed.

When l did service the loop, the copper block was only discoloured due to the heat, no sign of corrosion.

Coolant used was EC6.

I usually do mine every 6 months, I always run Mayhems Pastel or X1 UV.

I left my X1 UV in my system for 9 months though before i flushed it and popped in Mayhems sunset yellow, and i think i'll continue to do it every 6-9 months.

Reason i change it so "Often" though is because i get bored of colours quite fast haha.
