Growing up my parents always tried to give us a holiday once year ... whether it be abroad or somewhere in the UK.

Now I am older and haven't had a family holiday in quite a few years I always try and plan my year to involve a holiday. Admittedly, this hasn't always worked due to finances and when I was at uni I had exams etc.

Point is...I do try and factor a holiday into my year.

In recent conversations it would appear that it is not necessarily the norm to expect a holiday a year.

Is this strange? Were others brought up with a holiday a year?

Normally once every couple of years ... the rest of the time is spent saving up :)

I'd rather spend a bit more and go on holiday less often, but have a nicer holiday, than go more often and be disappointed.

I haven't had a proper holiday for about 3 years, I just seem to get too involved with work and get too busy with other stuff so end up forgetting to book anything. :/

In recent years I've been on more long weekend breaks than what you would call a traditional holiday (I think I've been on more stag do's than holidays the last 2 years)

This will be the 1st year my GF and I have gone on a proper holiday abroad and come summer we'll have been together for 4 years.

Usually 4-5 times, on average around 1 month cumulative over the year. (Self employed)

Around 4-6 times a year, 3 of which are usually holidays in the Lakes in one of our family’s cottages, others are either camping with mates or 4 days in Center Parcs etc.

Every few years we do a big trip i.e. USA for two weeks, however since i travel abroad quite a bit with work I’m not really bothered about going abroad from my holidays and much prefer to enjoy the UK countryside.

I hadn't been on a proper holiday for 18 years for a number of reasons.

But, last year I decided to take away my family (mrs and 3 kids) to a pretty remote villa in the Andalucian mountains Competa, Spain. In short, loved it (minus the kids arguing) I've got the bug a bit now, off to a villa in Kathikus Cyprus minus my youngest two just taking the 11 year old this year. Would imagine I'd be going on hols about once a year now depending on my work.

Hmmm..depends on how you define holiday..

I'm out every weekend i can in the camper. 30+ weekends a year.

1 week or more holidays i'd say 5.

Last year i used a good chunk up in ecuador (26 days total) so managed 3 more week longs.

This year i've already done 1 week long in Cuba, have a 2 weeker to Bonaire in June and September brings 9 days in Italy including climbing an active volcano. That leaves 19 days (4 weeks) to book.

I do live for my holidays. :)

At the moment, probably once a year if that :p Trying my best to save as much money as I can. Would like to move out to Canada for a year.

My family would always go on holiday once a year, nothing too special, a package holiday in Europe or something.

When I got to the age where I could be left at home alone I stopped going with them as I just found the whole affair a bit stressful. Nowadays I haven't been abroad for about 3 years and I'm gagging to go somewhere warm and sunny!

I bugger off for 2 weeks in October, catch Nottingham Goose Fair, Stratford Mop, Alton Towers and a few other fairs parks. Catch 'em all before the season closes. Stay in hotels for some, stop back at home for others. I'll go to Devon for 3-4 days in the Summer to see grandparents. Last time abroad was France in 2008, then France in 2003, then France/Spain in 1997, so I don't go overseas much.
