How often do you need to top up a PAYG SIM before they cancel it?

I have a couple of PAYG SIM cards which are basically just for receiving calls. I hardly, if ever, make phone calls from them. How often do I need to top them up with a token £5 to £10 to stop them being cancelled? The networks are o2 and EE.

I got a message after a year of not paying anything on.

Said they'd cut me off if I didn't give them more money.

Doesn't seem to be any hard and fast guide on this - and often the T&Cs and what any provider actually implements can differ.

I've been using a 2nd EE sim which I've never topped for over a year. At some point it stops working but I just call on 150 and it activates again.

I easily go more than 12 months between £10 top ups on tesco mobile. Never had a problem.

I've got a Vodafone PAYG in my spare phone. Once a month I send a text on it & check the balance of credit on it. It's been so long since I last topped it up, I've forgotten what to do when the time comes
