was just chatting to somone that said he didn't think there was a point to a DSLR if you used anything other than full manual control.

So was jsut wondering your thoughts on this?

I do use full Manual control somtimes but I most like to use Appature Priority

Regards

Av 80%
M 20%
Tv 0%

Only use M when in a controlled lighting situation, ie. closed room with permenent constant light source, or FLASH !

mostly aperture, will use shutter if i'm shooting something moving, and use manual when doing long exposures / IR work

Manual 100%

But I'm a complete n00b. I find with A or S the pics can come out over or under exposed quite a lot, despite the metering reporting it should be correctly exposed.

I'm suprised with some of the replies, would have thought more people would be using manual a lot more often than they are!

I use Manual 100% so far, have yet to really play around with the other modes

Av most of the time, with Tv for moving things occasionally and M for night photography. I find the metering is usually bang on with Av though, so don't often need to fiddle around.

A 90%
T 5%
M 5%

Given that we are talking about Digital SLRs with review screen and a workable histogram, multiple advanced exposure modes, then Automated modes with Exposure compensation is normally sufficient.

If people really struggle to use an AV or Tv mode then the most probable reason is you have the wrong kind of metering.

I really need to learn more about metering modes. I don't even know what mine is on most of the time I am shooting :(

My learning is certainly a one step at a time process. Although I probably should have learnt about metering long before much of the stuff I know now :p

You lot are making me feel bad I use P on a canon a lot!

A - 5% (for very quick shots when there is no time to play)
P - 75%
M (with flash auto exposure) - 15% (use M to control back ground light effects)
Pure M - 5% Only really for night time stuff

No idea about percentages but the vast majority of the time I use Av. Tv gets used a reasonable amount for prop aircraft and some motorsports panning. M is for flash or long exposure stuff. I think I can honestly say I've never used P mode on my current bodies. Full Auto? Don't even have that option...

Av: 60%
M: 30%
P: 5%
Tv: 5%

Used Tv for the first time beyond testing at Santa pod the other weekend, although I used Av most of the day :p
Use auto in the rare occasion I'm using the onboard flash for a quick shot.
