I must say I format my pc once a week. One week it is XP x64 the next is vista x64 and then XP x64 and then vista x64 and soo on

I defrag about 12 times a day every time I download or install something I defrag because if you do it as much as I it only takes 40 secs each time and keeps the HDD perfect.

I use o&o 10 pro

I would say on average every 6-12months.
It helps to have a structured install routine, I can have a fully usable machine in ~1hr and also everything important on the C: drive is backed up nightly.

I normally only reinstall if:
There is a major change being made to the system, like a new service pack.
I have changed something like the motherboard or graphics card.
I notice there is a lot of rubbish building up on the install (like programs I forgot to uninstall)

So I don't reinstall for the sake of reinstalling

Because if you think about it 12 x 40 sec = 8 mins Then I do my weekly format on a Saturday or Sunday takes about 40 mins soo it is not that much time I waste let’s say 1 hour tops

What's the point in de-fragmenting it 12 times each day throughout the week, then ****ing wiping it all off anyway at the weekend?

A computer is quite capable of functioning perfectly without needing to be de-fragmented over ten times a day.

Probably every 3 months or so. I get bored with my OS after that time so like to change it. I keep iterating between XP and Vista.

I used to do it every 4-6 months. Now I dont bother. If it completely screws up I'll sort it out. Otherwise, it seems to do the job just fine.

I’d do that every about 6-8 months but that depends of how my system performs.
Sometimes when things go wrong (trying new drivers, application, settings) I can reinstall few times in same day
