How old is too old?

In reality, I think probably around 23-ish is the upper limit by which you should be mature enough to longer be wanting to sit there and "bing bing" around with Sonic Mario or whatever other childish games there are these days.

Once the student days are over and you're into the real world of employment, one would hope you'd be grown up enough, and have enough responsibilities, to make video games the obvious child's play they are.

Honestly, sitting there with your controller getting jolly like a 5 year old because you made some pixel dude jump? There are much better, grown up things to do with your time -- like DIY, cleaning the car, reading a book or watching X-Factor. Get with the program.

Unless you are being sarcastic.

Seriously, you class gaming as childish but watching ****-factor is not?

Gaming is a hobby, or in a few cases a profession, in the same way sticking airfix models together, playing football, doing a tapestry, playing cards or watching tv is. Sure some hobbies are more beneficial to health and wellbeing than others, but if you enjoy it and it is a relaxation from the trials and stresses of real life do as you see fit no matter what the age.

35, and I still enjoy gaming so long may it continue. Her indoors thinks its childish but what does she know?.

She thinks it's funny when she comes out with comments like 'are you going playing army?' or another favourite of her's is 'has your friend gone in for his tea?' when I've finished playing for the evening.

You can't be too old for anything in my opinion as long as you're capable. Who cares if certain people think gaming is childish. Better than getting drunk as a **** every weekend and not being able to afford any other hobbies and damaging your body.

I come from the first generation to grow up with gaming way back in the Inteli-vision/Atari days. I always had a gaming machine in the house be it a console or PC (does a C64 count as a PC?) gaming has matured as I have, I think anyone who has the opinion that gaming is childish is a little out of touch to be honest & need to step into the modern world.
It's amazing how many people have very strong opinions about things they have never engaged in.

After reading about Helen Klien, who's in her 80's now and has been an ultra-marathon runner since her 50's (and still running) I realised that you're never 'too old' for anything, except in your own head.

Actually scratch what I say above anyone over the age of 12 should stop gaming especially online until they are at least 30, then perhaps we can have some games that are not COD clone shooters that the mindless ***** seem to lap up!

;)

hehe

sounds like what the better half would say most saturdays.

I'd personally guess that most people wouldn't consider anyone who plays games for a few hours a week, sad at all. But anyone in the twenties and up who plays them non stop and who decides to talk about them over and above anything else, likely runs the risk of looking like a saddo lol.

It's like anything in life. Do it in moderation and don't hark on about it all the time and most will likely feel it's like a bit of a hobby for you.

* 48 and trying hard to not look like a saddo ;) *

The old being social argument, is incredibly funny IMO. About 80% of the people you know and will/have already met are fake and will stab you in the back for a cheese toastie. For me personally priorities are like this: acquiring money > eat/sleep/drink > a special someone > hobbies that 99% of the time do not involve other people > urinating/defecating > staring at a brick wall > applying bamboo splinters under my finger nails > wrapping a towel around my face and standing underneath the shower > throwing myself down the stairs for pleasure > 'people'

Not to say I won't go out and see friends, but its rare and I do chat with people over the web, but I mostly like to be around family or alone. I can't be all that bothered trying to maintain friendships and all that jazz, I did that for 3 years at college and I got quite bored.

People game for a variety of reasons. I do it because un-stresses me out, yet keeps me away from going out everyday and wasting my money in pubs etc. I'm 36 and have been gaming since the Atari 2600 days. I doubt I will ever stop either!

If you go through life worrying about people calling you childish, you'll live a very dull existence.

I don't spend hours and hours playing games, maybe and hour or two a day if I've nothing better to do. I basically never watch tv, theres nothing good on anyway, it's all pop factor and jordan shore with justin beaver and god knows what else.

PC gaming is probably one of the better formats for gaming as well, I suppose largely due to the price point for a gaming pc, it isn't available to 14 year olds with anger issues. You might get an xbox on a paper round but a gaming rig is a whole different kettle of fish.

Sure, fine, but understand that this is down to your own personal and clearly pretty serious issues with forming and maintaining personal relationships, and does not reflect the experience of the vast majority of the rest of us.

Look at most of the elderly people today, all they do is sit in their homes and watch crap TV, maybe trot along to the supermarket once a week. They could only dream about learning how a computer works and what the uses are. If I live into my 70s I'll still be leading 300 man sieges

I'm similar but worry one of us will one day spaz out and kill someone for fun.

Also, not really relevant to the topic, and way more information than anyone wanted!
