How old is too old?

I'm a young gun, coming up 25 and I highly doubt I will be finished any time soon. In fact, I am rather excited at what will be out in 10 years time considering the growth of technology in the last 10 years...

Mortal Kombat (1st one) 10 years ago, then this year we got things like Battlefield 3... God knows what we will have in a further 10 years!

A standard colour TV Licence costs £145.50
my sky tv package £55 - net/phone £480 a year

over £600 a year to watch crap tv.

pc one off cost ?

Yeah of course, a PC is a "one off" cost. No-one here really upgrades their PC each year or so to keep up with the latest game development do they? Very rare on these forums. Ahem. ;)

As for your other costs... 55 quid a month is not the average TV or SKy viewer, that is the top package, you can pay less than £30 (and thats only if you feel you need Sky)... and net and phone should be considered separate to everything else, as they are pretty much everyday essentials that don't have tp be related to either TV or gaming.

My mum does puzzle books and crosswords. She's 85. To me, that's gaming. I mean it's no different really to doing an adventure game with puzzles to solve. :)

I'm only 15 and my Step Dad is always saying stuff like "Going to play little Mario again?" and "Don't worry you will grow out of it soon"

Fat chance :p

console gamer = one off cost?

ps3 = £200 ish has been out 6 years / tv license £145*6 = £870

its purely for arguments sake as most people have TV's don't they.

Console gamers usually pay around 50% more for every game, that's how the companies make their money on the basic one-off console costs.

Anyway why are we nattering about costs (my fault for saying "time and money") they're not what the focus of the discussion was. :)

Childish hobby? I've been playing computer games since I was 5, I'm now 37 and there's plenty of gamers who have more "years" actively gaming than me. Folk at work all know I game - I see it as far more mentally stimulating than sitting on front of a TV watching soaps, which frankly people should be ashamed of :P

Im 46 and still play pretty much every day.

Time becomes a problem once you have a family but my son is now 9 and we oftern play online together :)

I cant see me ever stopping or see a reason why i should need to, yes it becomes a problem when some kid keeps kicking your ass all evening long but its still fun.

We have between my son and my self 2 decent computers, 2 xbox 360's and 2 PS3's, os we have a good choice of what to play on :)

How much time do you spend with your son playing games, just out of interest? Does he play them alone a lot too?
