How outdated are L5640s?

I have a HP with a pair of these in. 12c/24t with 48gb ram and a gtx670 2gb but im getting bored and thinking of building my own again. Will i gain anything in BF4? I already play on ultra with high fps.

Be looking towards the 4770k with 16gb ram.

The frostbite engine is very heavily threaded so there would not really be much of a gain I would not have thought, the 670 will likely be the bottle neck.

As long as the game you are playing uses multiple threaded your HP rig should be fine for a while yet.

They look like the server version of Gulftown, so bit like having two low-clocked i7-980X. Quick calculation suggests to me that you should still have about 57% more CPU performance in those two chips than in one 4770K, even though they're only 2.26 GHz. If you must upgrade then it will have to be to another multi-CPU system IMO.

As above, get a faster/another/several GPU(s) first.

Can't you overclock those ones? I'd pick a 4770K over using 2 of them at their stock setting any day of the week.

+1 for sticking with your current cpu's and upgrading the gpu, You'll get more bang for your buck.

Whack a more powerful GPU - or GPU's - in there. That will give you the biggest performance boost.
