How quick do temps change?

I started to encode a film and then loaded up Speedfan to keep an eye on my temps, as soon as it loaded i saw that my CPU was at 58C and within seconds rose to 79C :eek:

I stopped encoding the film, turned all my antec 1200 fans on high and then opened some windows (just in case) and within about 5 seconds it was back down to 34C. Is something wrong here or is it normal because i know the antec is good at cooling but not that good!!!

Temps can rise very quick, it might worth investing in a better cpu cooler

if you think about it,

a really fat man going from sitting on his butt doing nothing, to suddenly pushing himself physically to the max, think about how fast he heats up

Not the best representation but you get the idea, and with you whacking fans up full and increasing air flow the temperature drop, when stress was relieved from the CPU, was obviously even faster than if you would have just stopped encoding alone.

Thought about getting a better cooler?

that kinda cpu definitely deserves a better cpu cooler.
although temperatures may drop fast, 45 degrees does seem a bit too much.
I mean yes, probably shaved more than 25 degrees just by turning the encoder off, but it remains still quite a bit for just 5 seconds of high airflow.

Looks pretty average to me - my laptop can get rid of 50degrees of heat (80 down to 30) if I go from no cooler+heavyLoad to cooler on, fan up and idle, within 5 seconds or so.

LOL, nice representation, i have been eying up the Noctua i7 cooler but the tan color puts me off, maybe a TRUE.

Yea with the noctua the colours seem to be like marmite, love it or hate it but from what ive read around here its a good little cooler

Water Cooling isn't really all that difficult if a bit daunting the first time that you try it! Although kits seem a good idea they are often over-priced for the performance that they offer...

If you are serious about water cooling then I suggest that you read up on it and find out as much as you can and then put together a list of custom parts, you will get a better set-up for the same or less money and the satisfaction of building it yourself.

Never seen teh point in watercooling unless you are pushing for serious clock speeds meself.

I'm bedding in my Q6600+Noctua cooler+AS5 - had it doing Prime95 overnight with F@H GPU [XFX4850 XXX+Trad2+AS5] as well.

Temps went from 63deg down to 42deg in a few seconds, likewise on the GPU, it went from 51 to 41 in the spacfe of about five-ten seconds - case temperature is showing as 36 degrees.

That's on the lowest fan speeds on stock settings all round, mind - I like my machine quiet.

But is it safe to have temps around 78 for 10-20 minutes?

Because i thought it was a pretty big jump from 28C idle

Does seem high - but I think most Intel CPUs are good for 90deg, but I certainly wouldn't let it get that high! near 80 degrees would, in my view, seem like pushing your luck, but the CPU should throttle back if the temp gets too high anyway. In theory....

Have you tried reseating the heatsink in case it's not on properly? I assume it's the OEM unit, yes?

ensure your heatsink is correctly situated, and you havent used too much thermal paste, you need max about pea size amount, and spread it evenly with a plastic bag over your finger.

intel reccomend 71 degrees or lower, if under load it goes above that, rethink your cooling.

Is air flowing freely? i got my temperatures to drop by 20 degrees when i cleaned my case of dust and reseating the heatsink. It took a dyson hose to clean the heatsink it was that clogged up.

I've been told the stock cooler is quite garbage, upgrading would be a good idea.

that temp is the case temp not core temps.

My Core i7 goes from 35C to 70C in a matter of 5/6 seconds.

My fans auto adjust to stop it going any higher, so it sits at 68-72C (if I left them at stock it would hit 85+)

My overclocked E6750 jumps from 34-40 to 64-66 under load and stays there. Normal behaviour, I think, although 79 seems on the high side.
