How quickly can you get carpets fitted?

We are going though buying our first house and one of the things on the list of to do's is recarpet all of upstairs and the staircase.

We are in a rental now and don't know when we are likely to exchange. That's means our financial position at that point and how much time we have to move in are unknown. We could have 1 day to move and no money, or we could have just under 2 months to move and plenty of spare cash, it just depends when the completion falls and how much notice we have.

Ideally if we have time we would like to do the decorating and carpets upstairs while the house is empty. How long does it take to go from deciding you want carpets fitted to getting them in? Having an idea on this would allow us to work out if we can get it done once we know when our completion date is.

Cool, thanks guys. It sounds like if we have a few weeks then we should be able to get it done. Puts the pressure on me to get the painting done beforehand :)

All depends on how much money we have once we complete. Currently it looks like less than nothing :p. But if things drag on for a few months we will be able to save some more.
