Just changed insurerers from Endsliegh/fortis to AA/zurich insurance. I changed because AA was £70 cheaper including insured NCB than fortis, £252 from £331 a decent reduction I thought. My new insurance started at 00.01 21st June 2008 as shown on my insurance certificate. I checked on Askmid.com and it shows my car as having no insurance valid on my Daewoo, now Humberside tinpot coppers have a lot of cars fitted with ANPR, what are my chances of getting grief from the wooden tops for having 'no valid insurance'.
Tried ringing AA this morning but got stuck in a queue for 30mins and got fed up of waiting. I have to go to work soon, so I will have the new insurance certificate on me in case I get pulled by the plod. How often is the database updated on askmid or is it a live updated database that is continually updated?

I think at worse you would get stopped, in which case they would contact your insurance and find everything is ok. Do you not have the documentaion through yet?

just managed to get through on the AA freephone number and they have manually updated the file by issuing a covernote but it will only update the mid database at midnight tonight. So will check the database tomorrow to ensure all is well.

I have all the paperwork in my hand, certificate, schedule etc.

As someone once put it - the cover note is king.

IIRC it can take up to 14 days for the MID to be updated (some companies are much, much faster than others), but as long as you've got a cover note the most that will happen is you get pulled over, show it and head off - can be delayed if you're shirty with the cops :p

Even without the cover note the cops have the option of ringing the insurance company via dedicated numbers to check (at least during the day).

The MID updates instantly, however, that's not the point.

The insurers that feed the MID generally upload every evening.

So, the answer to the question in 98% of cases is 24 hours, or less.

you'll be fine, i had the mondeo on a temp policy for 2 weeks in may between policies, and that wasnt put on the MID at all. I got pulled over, they phoned the insurance company and i went on my way, no hassle :)
