How reliable are VAC bans?

That's not quite the same as aimbotting/wallhacking though

I walked past my brothers room the other day to hear his mate say "You can remove the VAC thing via the server list". I was curious so I asked him why he'd need to do that and the guy said VAC won't let him on servers. My face lit up. I've never met someone irl that's actually been VAC banned.

The excuses were great! I love hearing what they say and how they didn't hack, it banned them for no reason, it sucks, wah waaah waaahh. I should have printed off a nice pwned badge for him. That might sound mature but it's people like him that wreck the game for the new players.

Very true although it is only a short step away from it.

And thinking about it some more, I think I was wrong and a cheater probably is almost always going to be a cheater. I would think most cheaters do so because they NEED to win and lack the skills to do it.

I suppose unless they suddenly became really good, they wouldn't want to stop cheating as they couldn't handle coming in at the bottom of the scoreboard.

Like the OP said, once playing a match without cheats, this guy came in dead last by a margin.

I just wish these people could know what it feels like to come in first using nothing but your own skill. They'd spend their time getting better rather than finding hacks.

We had a person come into our servers with speedhack and aimbot. One of our regulars came into our TS and informed us. Literally, this player just ran through the entire office level on CS:S and headshotted eveyione in 7 seconds. I mean why? Especially when they type up messages saying 'Im better than you' ' You were pwnd by ' etc etc. No, I am Admin and I have GODLIKE powahs!!!!111eleven. Result: Steambans banned, and perma banned from all our servers. I really dont see the point. I know a few dodgy players, that look like they could wallhack to give them a slight edge, but its very difficult to detect them.

some people suck and it loses its fun appeal, they also have crap lives so they try to be better at something, well pretend they are so that people online like them etc.. thats the people who disguise it, the others I dont really know tbh.

Iv cheated a lot in the past, but when you play with friends and you are all cheating it becomes fun and silly.

Just to emphasise what has been said: VAC will only ban an account when it detects code it knows is associated with cheats. There was one instance a few years back when an in-game MP3 player was triggering VAC bans but that's it.

And all those bans were reversed.
