How reliable is Openreach's estimate for fibre?

I know the dates on the BT Openreach website should be taken with a pinch of salt but I'm awaiting fibre going live in my area and its got an estimated activation date of 31/12/2012 on the BT site.

Now I know this shouldn't be taken literally as it can vary wildly, but are BT pretty good at sticking to their estimates? OR is it literally just as and when they feel like (i.e. could be several more months?)

I have seen lots of BT Openreach vans in the area digging up roads from the looks of it over the past couple of months so hopefully thats a positive sign.

They are not very reliable and anything at the end of a month is usually a holding date. They are rubbish at sticking to them too

Infact this close to the end of the month id expect your date to move to 31/03/2013 any day now, thats the next holding date

If thats your first date above be prepared for it to move a few more times before you can order

They are pretty poor to be honest. Each time the date gets down to a couple of a weeks for my exchange the date moves by 2 or 3 months. Mine should have been done in March 2012. Actually just checked again now it just says 2013, no month listed.

Poop, just as I thought. No fibre for us for a while!

Annoying as all the surrounding exchanges pretty much are fibre enabled!

Ive spoke to Virgin but even though they provide cable in my area they said they couldnt provide a business line to our premises, even though they do residential lines fine.

I might re-enquire.

When i put my postcode to OR it shows that there are 4 boxes near my area. However, there is no ISP that offers fibre to where I live.

There is no further info on OR about more fibre installations nearer my property. I can't understand what that means and whether I'll ever get fibre or not.

As luck would have it the BT Openreach site and Twitter now says that our Exchange is fibre ready. Phoned our ISP but it mustn't be quite ready for ordering yet as they said we couldn't get it yet.

Hopefully will be soon :)

Yes, be prepared for delays. I've emailed openreach, turns out there are numerous blocked ducts. So even though the exchange is enabled, nobody is getting fibre until the council grant permission to dig up some roads.

Thanks but I know I can't get it (btw that was for ADSL availability, not fibre? or did I get something wrong). I'm not wondering about that, I'm wondering on when (if ever) will I be able to get it.

The Openreach website, once I put my postcode, just shows me 4 nearby exchanges who are AO, i.e. available for order, but they are all about 1-2 miles away.

It doesn't say when the exchange I am on (which I don't know which one it is anyway) will be converted to fibre.
