How safe is a CPU once you've removed it from the motherboard?

Hey guys,

Just a quick question really.

I have an old PC with a Pentium CPU inside, i wanted to removed it from the heatsink and mobo and make a nice keyring or something.

I just wondered, since i have no cleaning stuff at home,

1)Whats the best DIY way to remove the paste?
2)Once its removed, how safe is it for me to start drilling it?


Any precautions?

No idea until I take a look, probably.

No residual charge or anything spooky?

Im just gonna drill through it, file off the pins perhaps.
 
oooh, it is a Pentium 4... heatsink is that main problem at the mo, screwed on so tight. Processor may be a bit too bit for a keyring but there are a few other little jingle jangles hanging on the motherboard which may look nice.
 
This how mine turned out. Pretty hard to drill through though.
