as above really, cant really find much info on how safe it is, and the does and donts.

im too scared to lap my cpu incase i break it, ok, i know once i do it i void warrenty, but id like to get a more than my 5 months use out of it

1. has anyone actually had a cpu die on them due to lapping? (not in the long run, i mean lapped it, put it back in, wont boot)

2. how thick is the IHS - could i sand right down to the core?

3. what not to do/touch, do i put the black plastic cover back on

i have the 6300, it idles at 33c (ACF 7) full load Orthos 55-58

i know my temps arent high, id just like to get them as a low as i can on air, and lapping is free, as long as it goes to plan

the 6300 is at 2.8 at the minute, yes i too think they are really good temps but im looking to go higher 3.15 (450x7) but as soon as i go there the temps are around 38 idle and mid 60's load

im using the arctic freezer 7 with 3x120mm fans, 2 intake and 1 exhaust

EDIT - im also looking to change case to an Antec 900, i currently have a thermaltake shark, and take advantage of the large top exhaust fan right above the heatsink, which id also like to change to a TT or a Ninja but id have to modify the backplate for that as i have a p5b-d

maybe your airflow case, is also a limitation

my temps are way to high and thats with the fan speed at full blast

all my fans are at full tilt, noise isnt an issue and they provide excellent cfm and little noise, case cooling isnt a problem tbh

just want to see how low i can get my temps without spending silly money on water or phase
