Ive just got hold of the standard edition of oblivion second hand for a fiver.

Is this game best played normally first and then play with all the add ons and stuff later? or is it best to get all the add on packs and mods and stuff and start it all from the outset with them?

thanks.

If I were you I would get all the graphical mods (I'm afraid it's been a fair while since I played it so I can't remember what mods to recommend) and play it with them. Then get Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and play it with that.

Though have a play of it vanilla first, so you can see what needs improving.

Agreed. As I've always said, play it as intended and decide what you don't like. Then get the mods that fix it. Just because someone else likes (say) OOO doesn't mean that you will. But there's no reason not to add the expansions now because they make no difference to the game: like everything else in Ob, if you don't want to do them, you don't have to. But if you load Shivering Isles from the standalone game (i.e. not the GOTY edition) you MUST patch the game (the download is on the ElderScrolls site) to stop the only really serious bug in the game. The GOTY version is already patched.

Get the latest patches, and probably the unofficial patch too - and play it just as standard, as I guarantee you'll go "wrong" in some way with your first character, and not want to sink loads of time into them when you realise you're badly lacking something REALLY useful...

Also takes a while to work out whats what, and theres always so much to do you wont get bored for a long time (if you like Oblivion that is!)

you will love it, may night i have spent just huntting around, i love all the little side quests, just play stand and add as you fell fit, once you start you will not have time to seach around for mods lol

I'd have a quick gander at it as it stands but wouldn't play for any meaningful length of time without mods myself. Even if it isn't gameplay mods I'd want to change that UI and add things like extra hotkeys.

I got this for the PS3 cos my PC isnt good enough to run it smoothly at the mo...

I played through the story first and then went for the mini missions etc.

How did you find it on PS3?
I've recommended it to a mate who only has a lousy laptop, but has a PS3 - he'll be missing out the mod-ability of it, but for £8 or so, should definately be played I think!
