Sorry if this post is just mindless ramblings, Iwas looking through some threads and saw Fox had posted this clip from the top gear track times:

Porsche 911 Carrera 2S 1.26.2
Porsche 911 Carrera S 1.28.9
Porsche 911 Turbo 1.31.0
Honda NSX Type R 1.31.6
BMW M3 1.31.8
Mazda RX-8 1.31.8
BMW 535d 1.31.8
BMW 130 1.31.9

That has shocked me to the core, the RX-8 which you can buy used for under 4 grand, is only 0.2 seconds slower round the TG track than the NSX Type-R, but that isn't what shocked me, I know that around the Nurburgring the NSX Type-R has the exact same time as the Ferrari 360CS, and I know that the 360CS has a faster time than the F40.

In 2010 you can buy a used car for £3.5k that will beat a Ferrari F40 round the track, the F40 was one of my dream cars when I was growing up and the sudden realisation of the above has left me a little shocked lol

The 'ring favours torquey cars that pull well into higher numbers.

The RX8 won't be anywhere near the M3 at the 'ring, let alone the NSX.

I hope you're joking. All those times were done in different conditions and should be taken with a HUGE pinch of salt.

iirc the NSXR was on a sodden track and on its semi slick tyres.

also remember that the earlier stig was no where near as quick as the later stig

some of those times were wet, some were soaking

the TG website doesnt say which however, as a comparison they are meaingless as no two laps had the same conditions. heck, a lot dont even have the same driver !

Not this again. The times are a load of rubbish and those cars are much better than a Mazda.

I mean look. The c2 4 seconds quicker than the turbo?

Why is it crap? What do you drive?

Have you driven one? I'm going to say... no.

Of course I have. (except it was a 530D)

And it handles relatively well for a lardy diesel saloon car designed for motorway cruising.

Thats not the point.

The point is that some people seem to believe that it can drive round a track as fast an a Honda NSX Type R, widely regarded as being one of the best drivers cars ever made.

Surely you can see the issue here?!

330D vs 530D

Same engine, different car...unless I'm mistaken and a 3 series is the same car as a 5 series in shape, handling and weight?

EDIT: 1 series...even closer to a 5. :p
