There are three types of Mondeo:
Saloon - 4 doors. 2 in front, 2 in rear.
Hatchback - 5 doors. 2 in front, 2 in rear, 1 for the boot.
Estate - 5 doors. 2 in front, 2 in rear, 1 for the boot.
Seriously how are you not understanding this? What the hell is a saloon saloon? Or saloony hatch?
I can have a hatchback limousine. Just because it's 15 feet long doesn't make it a saloony hatchback - it'll just be a hatchback.
What the heck?
I've said there's three types of mondeo, and then you say there's three types of mondeo, but then go on some knowitall style rant about terminology.
No need to be a jerk about it, I just didn't remember the "estate" has its own word.
The reason I called the Mondeo hatchback a "saloony hatch" is because most hatchbacks the rear hatches/windows are pretty much vertical and open "out and up" (like on the mondeo estate, golfs, astras, A3, etc too many to list). On saloons the boot is completely horizontal and opens upwards. The Mondeo has a mix of 45 degree window and a small flat boot lip and opens upwards more than outwards. Therefore visually it has been designed to look saloon like while still having a large hatch.
Still don't believe me? Well just look at a picture of the rear of a Mondeo Saloon and a picture of a Mondeo Hatch with their boots closed. There isn't much difference AT ALL so is it wrong to say the mondeo hatch looks like a Mondeo saloon and then call the Mondeo hatch a saloony hatchback?
Just because the hatch is streamlined it doesn't detract from the reality of it being a hatchback and I've never said it's not a hatchback.
My word people are so up themselves and completely unhelpful in Motors.
