How to access HDD on my faulty laptop?

Hi all.

My Dell Inspiron 9400 died the other day when I spilt water on it and it's not booting up.
Is there a way to access, save and format the drive with an adapter or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

get a usb caddy for laptop hard drives and plug it into another machine, browse and copy files across.

Thanks. Will I be able to completely format/wipe the drive too?

wiping and formating should be ok, i use daraks nuke/boot.

As long as it's not dead completely from it's electrics frying, getting a caddy (IDE/SATA dependant on your laptop) would seem the easiest method.

Thanks. I think the HD is OK so I am going to buy a caddy and see if I can access it.
