Hey Guys,

Whats the easiest way to access your PC at home from lets say your place at work or anywhere else in the world?? would you recommend some software to do this or are there alternative ways within windows vista ultimate???

Also whats the easiest and best software to use for remote assistance - preferably freeware??

Would be gratefu for help and advise on this...

cheers

for both questions or just one of 2??

is it free??

does it provide full access?

as its my first time doing this would be grateful for more details

thanks

from logmein site

As an added bonus, for the next 30 days (or 120 minutes of use, whichever comes first) you'll receive the extra features found in our LogMeIn Pro premium version for free ($12.95 value).
After your usage period ends, you can choose to upgrade to LogMeIn Pro or revert to LogMeIn Free. You will automatically be prompted to choose.

can u still get remote access to other peoples pcs after 30days and access all features barr dragging and dropping files and other features?? so after 30days i could theoritically still access my mates pc and mess around with device manager or install new software he has the cd of in his cd drive??

Accessing your PC Externally, I'd choose LogMeIn Free Edition.

For Remote Assistance that you haven't previously been to the computer, I'd use TeamViewer 'QuickSupport', which you just direct the user to the executable and they just run it and they give their ID and password, and Jobs a good'un.

If you've been to the PC before, I'd use LogMeIn as you can set this up - I love the 'Grouping Feature' on the WebUI, works well.

that teamviewer is it freeware??

re: logmein, can you control all areas of a pc after the free trial is up??

Logmein Free for speed and ease of setup (no port forwarding etc required at all) and use

UltraVNC (or similar) to include file transfers, can use a SSH if required and other encryption, requires port forwarding setting up in your router etc

i've been using Teamviewer of late and can't say ive had any problems with. Its great when im in my room and someone has i've got an error on my pc, within 10 seconds im logged in resolving the problem! best of all its freeware.

TightVNC is what I use, and the server comes with a built in HTTP daemon. Just set 2 TCP ports up on your router, config the options and you can either control from a website (i.e you browse to your computers IP address and the built in HTTP server brings up a nice Java app), or you can use the TightVNC viewer.

thanks guys appreciate the support...

will logmein work if my pc is switched off?

does anyone have a link for teamviewer executable? once installed does my mate just give me his username and password and this allows me access to all areas?

just sign up for logmein free and try it out, it is what you want basically

won't work when pc is off unless you can login to your router externally and send a magic packet to your pc -must be connected via ethernet cable

no

only the 'home' one

to login from another machine, you go to logmein.com, enter your logmein account details and it connects to your pc through that browser.
