Its not the best of pictures but I have a house similar to this and wondered how I could get access to the roof area Ive highlighted in yellow. 2 reasons, firstly to hang some of those really classy icicle lights ( :p) off for Christmas and secondly they need painting when the weather gets better next year. NB mine dont have the plastic covers on like the one in the picture. There is a sloping roof to the back of the garage that you can just about see in the picture.

Is it possible or am I likely to kill myself trying?

Stuff going up there for Christmas lights! Run them along the front garage fascia which only needs a step ladder.

Erm, I already run them along both sets of guttering at the front top and bottom but we live in quite the competitive street and people raise the bar each year so Im scaling the operation up a bit!

Two cat ladders. Simples

Just googled cat ladders as Id never heard of them but Ive spoken to a friend who is in the fire brigade and he said he has a ladder just like that (he called it a roof hook ladder) so hes going to come round and give me a hand!

Old skool roofer will climb up there no bother - no scaffolding required.

When I needed my roof sorting I contacted a few companies. They all banged on about how I needed full scaffolding etc and how it was going to cost loads. I got in contact with the roofer who did the roof on my old house and he said no problems, give me an hour I'll have it sorted. Sure enough, an hour later my roof was fixed, no need for scaffolding and a bargain price too!

There are interesting rules about scaffolding and roof work it basically comes down to how long you plan on being up there!

To hand some lights along that gutter i fouls just climb the ladder and walk up the roof, take your time and do it in dry weather!

Same. Needed a ridge tile replaced on the end of a roof apex and one firm with posh office and lots of vans wanted to put a whole scaffold rig up for £££. Ended up getting a semi-retired roofer from down the clurb who crawled up, did the job, and was away in 10 minutes. Bosh.
