How to add 7.5t enttlement to licence?

Past my test in 1999 hence I am restricted to a vehicle or vehicle and trailer with a mam or 3.5t anyone advise on the easiest way to add a 7.5t entitlement as per the earlier Pre 97 licence holders?

Only way I can really see is go down the class 2 hgv route but I assume there will be an easier option than this

Nope - you'll have to pass your class 2 to get your C1 entitlement.

AFAIK:

Cat C = old class 2 & 3
Cat C+E = old class 1

So yes, you'll have to pass your 'cat C' test to gain the 7.5t entitlement on your license.

That's what I thought until I had to get a new photo licence last month, they removed my ability to drive a 7.5t, not that I'm that good at driving a small hatchback

I had a look at mine the other day (passed in 2007 or 2008 IIRC) and I'm not allowed to tow a trailer :confused:

I passed my test during the steam era but I noticed the other year that my licence only shows the 3.5 tonne limit. I hired a motorhome for Goodwood and was just on the limit of my licence. Why that then as I passed nearly 25+ years back?

yeah you need a separate test for that as well now.

Relatively easy though, not nearly as bad as the Cat C license.

I was a bit annoyed TBH, I honestly didn't have a clue until I looked. Whoops.

I assume a trailer test would involve reversing?

yes you are, as long as the car and trailer combined do not weigh more than 3.5t MAM

ie i can have a 1.75 ton car and tow up to 1.75 ton with said car as long as the car is rated to to that or 2t and 1.5t etc etc as long as the combined weight does not exceed 3.5t

You can tow a trailer, but not a very large one. Check the link that Mr LOL posted for details.
