How to Audi running lights work?

Does anyone know how modern Audi running lights (DRL) work?

The previous generation was obvious as you could see the individual LEDs but the current ones make a perfect strip of even, unbroken light.
Are they still LED or is it EL wire or something special?

They'll be LED.

Will be an LED at each the end of a light pipe, the pipe defines the DRL graphic. Slightly rough surface so that it emits light along its surface unlike a fibre optic. This is how the light looks consistant unlike the older style with individual LEDs along a PCB with some sort of refraction lense to direct it forward.
