How to avoid 'Protected View' warning when sharing Microsoft Office documents with clients

A friend shares Word and Excel documents with clients via email, which they need to open and edit and return.

Is there a way to transmit or share the file to avoid the client seeing the protected view warning below when they try to open it?

'This is from the internet and may be unsafe'

This can be quite off putting to non tech savvy clients who aren't unsure what to do. I realise that this is exactly the type of people protected view is trying to help, but it would be nice if it didn't appear.

They will need to change the settings in their copy of Excel. There is nothing you can do to the file to stop the message.
