how to be sure overclock is stable ??

I'm messing about with my overclock and slight changes make a big difference,
I want to know how I can make sure I've got a good stable overclock ?

some people have said run prime for 30 - 2hrs others have said try a gamel.

I always used to run prime for 2 hrs, if it did not fail within that time I was happy and just used the pc as normal.

ok and which setting should I use,
I've managed to to drop my voltage down from 1.325 to 1.318 and I want to make sure its stable .

since ive reset my reset the cmos ive been trying to get my old setting same as before, prime keeps telling me core 6 has stopped in blend, so im just adjusting the setting to see what's the best result i can get.

I used to use prime or intel burn test, but as the proud owner of a haswell chip, (aka hades) stress testers like theese are a definite no no.:D

Now i just use my daily tasks such as gaming, (primary use) and a bit of encoding.

Fair enough, to answer the question - normal everyday use, considering i mainly use my computer to browse webpages with very very light gaming on occasions not a lot is unstable :D

Normally do a couple of Cinebench runs, 3DMark physic tests and superpi for ram :)

All my chips, no matter which architecture go through a few minutes of Aida or something similar. Just to pick up anything obvious. Then:

My number cruncher rigs, number crunch and munch numbers (coining the term right now!) for stability testing.

My gaming rigs go on looping game benchmarks for stability testing.

I run them while i watch a film or cook an elaborate dinner and if nothing has blown up, i give them the thumbs up. That said, i wouldn't overclock my 4770k as high if i used it as a number cruncher!

any recommendation on what to use for game benchmarks ?

also i've run prime but no matter what voltage I have core 6 aways stops, is this a major issue ?
I also had 1-2 freezing issue so i upped the temp to 1.331, its now running much smoother,

I ran prime, and a game at the same time no issues the game even ran smoother then before.

The prime core 6 thing is normal. Not all cores are born equal, similarly to not all chips being born equal. Likely Prime is stressing the chip to the point where the weakest link in the chain cant keep up with the rest and that link is core 6 for you.

Like i said, if its a gaming PC prime stability doesn't mean much, you want to be stability testing with games!

Any game which is CPU heavy will do and utilizes multiple cores.

Is prime95 still the best to use ?
Does it matter of one of the core stop or does that mean its not stable ?

All the questions you are asking have been answered quite a few times already.

If you keep asking about stability rather than testing for it, you'll never find out!
