My fabulous ship
I have:

Quad core Q6600 2.6ghz
2gb OCZ ddr3
X2 500gb Western Digital Hard disks running in raid 0
Radeon 3870X2
600W PSU

Vista Ultimate 64

Im thinking another 2gb at least of ram will give it a major boost?

thanks for pointing that out

The graphics card isn't bad as such. It's just as you already have a quad, and barring the 4GB there isn't anywhere else to upgrade.

No matter what the 4GB is the right upgrade. If you still feel games (not just one) are slow, and they're fast on lower detail then the graphics card is the road to go down. But a graphics card upgrade would mean a 4870x2 or some other serious spending to be a worthwhile upgrade from where you are.

thanks, I just ordered 2gb now :)

Now whats the quietest case available? because I want to move my pc from the bedroom to the living room - currently have a cosmos which is WAY too loud, I was gonna put watercooling in it but I just havent needed to so not gonna bother.

I have an asus p5e3 wifi n mobo so I think thats either atx/extended atx. but would like a case that sits flat not upright.... and that can also fit my 3870x2? any suggestions?

I was looking at:

Silverstone Lascala
Thermaltake VB8001BNS
Silverstone Grandia

any advice?

Couldn't advise you on the brand of case. However I would say that most any case can be made quiet if things are done right.

Case fans don't need to be running at high speed, and can be turned down. So it's generally the graphics card fans or CPU fans that produce the noise.

12cm fans rather than 8cm are best for low noise on a case though if that's a choice you have.

I just want a case thats tiny but big enough to hold what I have and quiet enough to not be a bother while watching a movie - the cosmos is a monster and a loud one at that.

Yeah, but I'm assuming if he's got a quad he knows he's got a quad. And I'm pretty sure he knows he has 2GB.

But nice spot, he needs to be really careful he doesn't get the wrong memory.

There is indeed a few motherboards that accept DDR3 on the LGA socket ;)

they are quite nice too - I got the asus p5e3 with wifi @n and express gate lets me go online in 5 seconds (literally) - awesome for getting drivers etc. really happy with the motherboard.

So any advice on a new htpc case with what I got? those 3 are all I seen that are good enough on ocuk, need to be black (black tv) with room for a 3870x2 inside.

Ooh. I didn't know that about the DDR3. I guess it makes sense, I'm so used to the memory controller being integrated in the CPU (I've had AMD systems for a while now).

I just fitted a new motherboard yesterday with Express Gate, quite a good idea, although it's a shame it's not permanantly stored on the board rather than on a drive.

Anyway, I'll be staying away now since I can't help with the case.

Im kinda glad it is on a pci card as asus are really bad with drivers and for a while had trouble with their express gate (pc wouldnt boot with it set on in bios) so it gives you the flexability to drop it if needed or even replace it :p

Im thinking the grandia will be the best bet >.< but Im not sure if Im just saying that because of the remote and the front panel lcd >.<
