How to catch a predator..

I've watched all of the To Catch A Predator series and in every case the Predator is told the age of the child several times.
Logs are kept and Chris Hansen reads them back so there is no doubt.
When leaving there are always at least 4 policeman ready to pounce.

Are they not just exploiting people who are desperate enough to be manipulated into committing a crime?

I'd like to know more about how they actually communicate tbh.

You make a good point.

Does the show make the first move or do they just sit and wait for incoming messages..
 
The guy who jumps out should have a gun tbh. Do they really think their excuses are going to work? I drove 1000 miles to eat pizza with a young girl I've never met... honest!

Yes it's legal.

I was watching an episode of Cops where they put a bike on the sidewalk, and waited for people to walk past and steal it. They caught so many, it was hilarious just watching them pull one in after another.
