How to catch a predator..

What a uneducated and silly post, the fact that you start by insulting everyone who finds this interesting by calling them chavs and then scum really does show the lack of intelligence in your post.

This show I am sure has had more of an impact than a lot of other measures used by police forces across the USA. For a start it is raising awareness that this is a lot more common than people think, pushing parents to take more involvement in what their kids are doing. Secondly, it is another barrier of prevention to make 'predators' think twice about what they are doing.

It is obvious that breaking the law isn't enough of a deterrent, however, having their pathetic faces plastered all over international television may work. At the end of the day, if it makes one of these people think "no, I shouldn't, it could be a trap" then the show was a huge success.

As for the funny side, it is not what they are doing, but the pathetic excuses and bull**** stories they come up with that people find humorous to start with, not to mention the fact, in a couple of episodes a few get tazered which is always funny no matter who it is :)

Would you just prefer that no television show was made? that awareness about the issues wasn't increased? or perhaps those few that have been arrested should have been allowed to carry on without intervention?

I find it hilarious that people like you believe this show actually helps to prevent children from becoming victims of paedophilia attacks. In actuality it is you who fall as a victim to propaganda.

You really think shows like this help? You’re wrong to think all paedophiles are idiots. If anything these predators would learn to avoid being busted from television shows such as this, which pretty much provides them with an instruction on ‘how NOT to get caught’. “Oh lets set up cameras everywhere! Let’s use them as bait! Let’s set them up! Lure them in! We will catch them all!” If only things were as simple as your mind, children would be free from sexual assaults.

I suppose you find it funny because you don’t realise the traumatic side to the equation. Have you wondered how many paedophiles are not identified instead of laughing about the ones that make a fool of themselves? Saying this show is helping to prevent crimes is just ludicris. That is like saying “I want Salmons to be extinct from the sea/river, so I’ll just put some bait on the hook and start fishing”. Do you not understand that this show does not solve the problem?

This will be my last reply to you because you really are an uneducated ****tard!

This show, if nothing else raises awareness of the issues, if awareness is raised then there is less chance of it happening. This is why the police put posters up in car parks to raise awareness of car thieves. Perhaps you've seen the "think bike" posters on roads, this raises awareness of bikers, and hopefully reduces the number of bike deaths on our roads.

Firstly, I know not all peados are idiots, I never said any such thing.

So what you are saying is that because of this show, predators will learn to not get caught by the police? And they would avoid getting busted by not chatting online, sending naked photos of themselves and then turning up at kids houses for sex?

Surely that would mean that the show is helping?

This show does not claim to solve the problem of peadophilia, and no one here has said it does. However, it is doing a small part in helping raise awareness and fighting it. You seem to be so worried about thinking of the uncaught many that you seem to forget that even catching a few is also a positive. Perhaps you should stop posting using your emotions for fuel and start using the logical areas of your brain.

Can you not see that it is better to catch a few than not bother at all?

I understand that you want to solve the entire issue of peadophilia and I agree, but we won't do that over night and will need to lots of small steps along the way, from raising awareness of the techniques they use to a proper medical treatment and studies in to this and whether it really is an illness.

As I said, I won't be responding to you, I have better things to do than argue with you, such as sleep.

I’m glad it is your last post; at least you have a little dignity and saved yourself from further abomination.

First of all, your arguments for this show are not applicable for several reasons. The public’s perception of paedophilia is clear; the majority of adolescents and adults know the basic meaning behind paedophile. What more is there to glorify? This show is non-educational, it doesn’t teach the viewer anything intricate about paedophile behaviour nor does it teach ways in which we can further protect our children. Instead this show portrays paedophiles as idiots that are easily fooled, which certainly is not the case. In addition, simply knowing our children could become victims to internet chat rooms is just not effective. What are parents supposed to implement, a productive way for 24 hour monitoring of our children’s internet activities? C’mon this concept is worth next to nothing in terms of effectiveness.

You say catch a few as if there are only a few to catch. There are millions of paedophiles out there. Some are stupid, some not so, but it is certainly a no joking matter. There are probably way more effective methods for catching paedophiles in comparison to what is seen on the show. How about proper monitoring and filtering for online chat rooms as a start? Or how about providing parents and children with real educational information on the topic? Surely doing so would result in a lot more paedophiles being denied than luring an odd few to some random place. Even for the ones that get caught on the show, you think all of them will go to jail for the rest of their life? More likely they will be dumped back into society as a more effective and deadlier ‘predator’.

Sure, idiots are funny to laugh at, however in this context I sense nothing humorous in paedophiles especially when they are a potential danger to our children. Boiling it down into dummy term, the show’s contents revolve around the exploitation of paedophiles for the isolated goal of generating interest. It’s a sad and pathetic way to market this show as entertainment; it is even more shocking people like you find this funny. Well, we shall see who has the last laugh when someone you care about becomes a victim, you or the paedophile.

This show is totally stupid and only worth a small amount of entertainment value for Chavs.

Thanks for calling me a chav.

And for your interest I've sat in many a Child Protection meeting and To Catch A Predator was discussed at length.
All the high powered Child Protection Chav's also thought that the programme was a great idea and we even had our own ITV version for 2 episodes.
And one thing it certainly didn't teach paedo's is to not to do it because they carried on doing it.
Several of them even turned to Chris Hansen saying they guessed he was going to be there.

What is the narrative in your point? Are you referring to say that ITV solved the problematic issues of paedophilia? If not, we are back to square one and back to my original post.

I find it interesting that two episodes would have had any kind of positive impact on the general public. Moreover, it's a shamble that ITV gave such minimal support for an issue as serious as this considering you had 'thorough' discussions about it. Or maybe in actuality it wasn't as effective as intended and thus ITV was not able to make money and resulted the show as a failure here in the UK?

Edit:
After re-reading what you posted, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or serious.

Has the host done any voices for family guy or the simpsons or something? The bit at 1:55 definitely rings a bell with a character voice somewhere.

Proorwhat
I have come to the conclusion you have no idea what you're talking about.
You are however correct that the programme isn't funny but disturbing.

One of the accused actually said to Hansen that if it wasn't a sting he would have had sex with a 14 year old... Like others I find it quite disturbing, especially concerning some of the people who have committed serious crimes before (quite a few on the sex offenders register, one guy who had been jailed for rape, another for molesting a 9 year old girl etc.)

Watched a few more, but it's quite sick really.

I guess it's funny seeing them being caught and their reactions, but at the same time its scary and like I said, sick...

Would be pretty cool if they operated something similar like this over here, not necessarily the TV crew hanging around, but at least setting traps for these weirdos.
