He probably should have just insured it. Still, sounds like the thief got what he deserved. The guy who lost it sounds slightly mad, or perhaps childish, like when you're about 15 and you think you know everything.

The problem is, this is only possible if the thief is retarded. Luckily he was in this case but in general you'll never get your phone back.
