Two silly question, but I'm struggling here guys
1. How on earth does one change file icons in Vista?
Tried properties, all tabs, found a way of changing folder icons, customizing folder looks, but nothing to change file icons. Here's I'm trying to do - by default, after you assign a program to open file types Vista changes icons to white banner with opening program icon in the middle, that's all fine if you use thumbnails for blind people, but if you use "Details" view in explorer all the icons look bleek, washed and pretty much the same. So I'm trying to change just an icon to a bigger and better .ico file. But can't find any way to do that from explorer.
2. Something that bothered me since XP - I'm a neat guy, at least when it comes to filesystems, I'm linux schooled and for me everything has it's place and destination, I don't like stuff being cumulated in one place, in my working life folders have their use, I keep documents in one place, video files in other and so on so forth. And having said that, I never understood why MS insisted on Windows Explorer always opening in My Documents. It's the last path I ever visit, never ever store anything in there, as it's messy place to be in and burried deeply (c:\Documents And Settings\v0n\My Documents\Your Momma's Pants\Last Year's Archives - oh phlueeeze, what's wrong with just c:\ and letting me choose where I want to go). In Vista it's even more messy, as you end up by default in this bleek and washed out Explorer window which is dug up deep in virtual dirctory of Desktop > v0n > Documents being a pointer to C:\Users\v0n\Documents. That's maybe an improvement for people with one laptop, but not for someone with 6 drivers and few network shares. Anyway - I digress - the question is:
Is there any way to set Windows Explorer to always open in what's now known as "Computer" - as in just a list of drives - C, D, E, ... etc. with all the virtual crappola preferably gone or at least folded out of sight?
