Hi all,
just popped in my new x2 4200 and new mobo dfi lan ultra - d. After reformat i ran cpuz but it says "cores 1 threads 1" in the bottom corner.
Is there any way i can check to see if both cores are functioning?

CTRL ALT DEL, Performance. You should have two CPU usage history bar graphs, plus one on the left (total) so a total of three. Also in Device Manager "Multi-Processor" or something like that.

Nope non of these. Ive installed the amd driver and optimizer. Is there something i have to set in the bios?

just updated to the latest one but still no luck.
when i installed xp it said something like unrecognised computer type and asked me to choose type of computer, standard i364 or something like that, and other, which you needed a disk for. i chose standard, could this have something to do with it?

You need to remove the existing device in device manager, then reboot.
Device Manager, Computer ACPI single processor PC, delete. Reboot. It should then detect two cores. Should say multiprocessor if successful.

If not fresh install.

OK so right-click on that and goto Update Driver, then select ACPI Multiprocessor PC.

Disclaimer: Backup your data and cross your fingers before you do this.

To be honest it sounds like ACPI is disabled in your BIOS which would be why Windows hasn't automatically switched to the Multiprocessor HAL in the first place.

Sorted with a fresh install of windows, no idea why it didn't do it first time.
Now head on over to the motherboard section for my next problem.
