how to check sli??

hi i need to check if both my gfx cards r running but am not sure how? i have checked that SLI is running in nvidia control panel but when i open up DXDIAG it says only 768mb of video mem is available??? surely 2 x 768 would be 1536??? here is the snippet of the dxdiag..can some1 tell me if theres sommin wrong pls :)

I thought SLI didn't "double up" your video RAM like that. I forget exactly why, but it just doesn't work like that.

EDIT: oops, beaten too it. I thought that it used both the VRAMs concurrently though? Rather than ignoring one completely.
 
for the sli to function both cards keep the same info in video ram, so yu'll only ever see half the total ie one cards worth.

the benefit comes from the increase in processing power, not more ram.
