Hi all

at my home, the internet wire comes into my bedroom, and then it gests distributed between 3 computers and some wireless stuff (mobiles, ipads etc)

Is it possible for me (as the admin) to find out what speeds each port is using ?

I want to find out when another computer is taking my bandwidth so to speak

thanks

thanks guys

defiantly cant replace it because my dad had somebody install it and link it up to all the other devices, so its a no no

I was hoping I could just install a program, but doesn't sound possible?

certainly don't want to throw money at it as its not really important, I don't mind spending like £10 if there's something I could do

thanks everyone

So reading between the lines, you think someone is using up all the bandwidth and it's affecting your ping times so you want some evidence to go throw things at them, right?

Unfortunately with the kit you've got that will be very difficult.

basically yes

I cant throw them off though, because them being self employed and need to upload all their work files

but I just wanted to know why im getting such lag lately or my internet at my PC seems slower than normal

im even thinking about neighbours stealing my wifi bandwidth (although its 128bit secured)

Paid to install what, a router?

Overtime it wasen't working correctly, so we changed router, still had problems as he is down stairs and using wifi, we bought a wifi extender, but was still slow
so in the end he paid somebody to fix it all and hes now got the same speeds as me which is what we all wanted

cheers

Impossible to give advice without more info.

I am not sure what more information you need?

I have internet coming in to my router and I have 3 PCs connected to it, and some Wi-Fi devices (phones)

is it possible to see what each PC and each wireless devices bandwidth they are taking?

thanks guys

@ Orcvader

internet wire comes up from the road, to my bedroom upstairs, comes through the wall into a box, I then plug my router into that.
I then connect my PC directly to the router
Dad has a laptop that is in his office downstairs in a room, he is connect to my router via the electrical mains

Mum is connected to the router just like me, but hers in downstairs and there's a cable running directly into my router via the outside wall

hope that makes sense

I am on the 8Mb ADSL :(

want to get fibre now that its available, but im not allowed to drill anymore holes in the walls

Why would getting fibre involve drilling holes?

The majority of 'fibre' is FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) rather than FTTP (fibre to the property). With FTTC the connection still comes into the property using the existing copper phone line. It doesn't involve much more than installing a VDSL capable router (usually supplied by the ISP) in place of the ADSL router.

oh cool !
thanks ! :D

The router is the netgear I said above, its in my room, it goes from there to a long cable to mums PC directly

Yeah homeplug that's it that's what dad has to his laptop

i'll check the router settings, I thought it was 128 wep, ill double check

//edit

Security option is - WPA2-PSK [AES]
