My garage floor is a mess with paint spills and one stubborn looking oil stain. How's best to clean it ?

I guess you would need some type of degreaser to get rid of any oil stains or atleast to stop them being oily
then paint it over? I doubt it's possible to get it looking new otherwise

Brick cleaner of various strengths from your local builders merchants depending on stains. Be careful of ventilation as some of it's quite nasty.

A lot of paint spills will be softened dramatically with a wallpaper steamer if you have one, then just scrape off with a scraper.

Oil stains can be removed to some extent with a strong dose of washing liquid (washing not washing up).

I've used both those options before myself. Always worth starting with simple things you may already have.

Oil you can get biological agents, basically bacteria that will "eat" the old oil. Thats your ultimate.

As others have said you really want to paint the floor if these sorts of things become an issue to you. More than ever prep will be critical if you do though, poor prep on a garage floor almost always results in the patches that just dont stick and end up with peeled areas over time.

Erm, what? It probably won't be a painted floor, given it's a garage floor. And they want to get it clean, not just paint over it (and lol at trying to just paint over oil).

you know what a degreaser is right? the stain will likely be there forever but the oily residue on the surface won't

Thanks for the replies. Thought it might be worth posting a pic as I also want advice on how to paint the garage walls please.

I've only ever done interior walls with emulsion paint etc. and never painted concrete - is emulsion ok to use?

As you can see the floor is a mess and the place really needs some paint and tidying up properly.

Any advice on a colour scheme would be great too as my creative design skills are next to non existant :D

I want to go for the American looking games room approach I guess - JD fan and beer fan I was thinking a neon JD and Coors Light and some F1 pictures etc.

Any advice welcome!
